COVID-19 Delta Variant Continues to Pose ‘Very High Risk’ to Unvaccinated Chester Countians

The spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant throughout Chester County shows no signs of abating. As a result, cases here continue to climb and remain at a “very high level,” according to The New York Times.

Last week, there was an average of 123 new daily cases reported in the county, which is a 16 percent increase compared to the two weeks prior. Since the start of the pandemic, at least 1 in 11 residents have been infected by COVID-19.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 has increased in the last two weeks by 17 percent, with an average of 70 percent of ICU beds occupied as of Sept. 23. Deaths stayed at around the same level, with four new fatalities over the same period.

Chester County continues to be at very high risk for unvaccinated people.

On a positive note, the number of fully vaccinated people in the county also continues to increase. It is now at 59 percent. This includes 68 percent of fully vaccinated residents ages 12 and up and 86 percent of fully vaccinated people aged 65 and up.
