Social Media Glitch Creates Costly Problems for Boutique in West Chester
For Malena’s Vintage Boutique in West Chester, Instagram has been a great tool. In fact, it generated 20 percent of the shop’s sales and gave it a global reach. Its sudden suspension was therefore serious business for the shop, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.
The photo-based social media mecca suspended the shop’s 9,000-follower account — with only two hours’ notice.
Owner Malena Martinez leaped into action to fix it. But she received no information to help her restore her feed.
The e-mail she received said only that she had “violated terms of service.” Instagram administrators provided no details on what specific rule was breached.
The owner has paid shop employees for 50 hours of work over the past week to revive the account. They worked to circumvent various bots and contact Instagram 1:1.
No luck.
She set up a new Instagram account that has around 1,000 followers, but reinstatement of the original account is key.
Martinez, with her 20-year retail presence in West Chester, now worries that even with the new account, she could unknowingly repeat the infraction that bounced her.
“We are super grateful for the people who have been texting, calling, stopping by, and sharing information for what I hope is a temporary new page,” Martinez said.
