Renowned Economist Based in West Chester Advocates for Passage of Full Infrastructure, Jobs Package

By

A new report from Mark Zandi, Chief Economist of West Chester-based Moody’s Analytics, evaluates the infrastructure and jobs package proposed by the Democrats. He’s fully for it, viewing the proposal as a way to ensure the country’s recovery, writes Greg Sargent for The Washington Post.

The report comes after Republicans’ claims that $4 trillion in new investments for the nation’s future will precipitate sustained inflation. Zandi asserts that these inflation concerns are “likely misplaced” and “overdone.”

He argues that both infrastructure and jobs bills that Congress is currently debating are essential to moving the country forward.

“The nation has long underinvested in both physical and human infrastructure and has been slow to respond to the threat posed by climate change, with mounting economic consequences,” wrote Zandi. “The bipartisan infrastructure deal and reconciliation package help address this.”

Zandi believes that investment in public infrastructure and social programs will increase productivity and growth of the labor force. He sees the focus on climate change as an aid in preventing its corrosive economic effects.
