Kennett Square Borough Council has made an offer to Genesis HealthCare to buy the historic property on South Broad Street. Its $8.2 million bid intends to gain the land to increase the public services the borough offers, writes Jen Samuel for the Daily Local News.

The borough’s plans for the seven acres include a new municipal building, along with a police complex.

Genesis has to respond to the offer within 30 days for an agreement of sale. If approved, the borough will also lease some of the space to other government agencies.

With many of its employees now working from home, Genesis decided to sell the parcel and consolidate its personnel in two main spaces in the center of the borough.

“It is very important to us that Genesis keep their headquarters located in Kennett Square,” said Kennett Square Mayor Matt Fetick.

The borough plans to use 20,000 square feet of the 37,000 square feet available.

“I expect some kind of task force will be formed to determine how to use the additional space,” the mayor said.
