A pair of water ice shops with locations in Havertown and Chester made The Philadelphia Inquirer’s list of best water ice in Philly, writes Jilian Wilson for The Inquirer.

Pop’s Homemade Italian Ice

Filippo “Pop” Italiano sold frozen treats from a pushcart in his South Philadelphia neighborhood back in 1932.

It was only a matter of time before he opened a shop on Oregon Avenue in South Philly. That was followed up by a second store at 150 West Eagle Road in Havertown.  The Havertown store is open daily from 12-10 PM.

Siddiq’s Water Ice

Siddiq’s Water Ice started as a food cart at Temple University. It’s now expanded to two shops, one in West Philly and one in Chester.

It serves water ice with plenty of fruit, including fresh varieties like mango-berry, white grape, and cantaloupe.

Its Chester store at 720 West Ninth Street is open Monday through Friday, 1-7 PM, and on Saturday, 1-8 PM.

Water ice can trace its roots back to Italian families who brought the recipe with them when they moved to the United States.
