Malvern Woman to Rappel 10-Story Building to Support Nonprofit That Helped Her After She Lost Her Sight
Malvern resident Natanya Sortland will rappel a 10-story building as part of Eye Drop 2021.
That’s no small feat, but it’s even more remarkable because Sortland cannot see. She’s undertaking this risky endeavor to support the nonprofit that helped her after she lost her sight. Richard Ilgenfritz reported her multifaceted bravery for Main Line Media News.
When she started to lose her sight several years ago, Sortland had to relearn all the tasks the majority of people take for granted. Even navigating her home or a safe cross of the street was challenging.
Furthermore, she had trouble accessing Chester County-based help.
She turned to VisionCorps, a nonprofit from nearby Lancaster County that had expanded its reach to include Chester County.
For Sortland, the organization was a lifesaver. “They gave me back my independence,” she said.
Intent on giving back, Sortland will participate in the nonprofit’s signature fundraiser. Eye Drop 2021 trains sight-challenged participants before putting them 120 feet high on a rooftop from which they rappel.
It’s all in the name of building confidence and raising funds.
