Church Farm School Partners with YMCA of Greater Brandywine to Offer STEAM Camp
The YMCA of Greater Brandywine has offered a multitude of summer camps on Church Farm School’s campus in Exton over the years. In addition to its traditional day camp for grades K-5, Camp Leo, it also offers a Teen Camp, Aquatics Camp, and Sports Camps. In summer 2021, the YMCA has partnered with Church Farm School to add four weeks of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Camp for students entering sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.
The four, week-long STEAM Camps will be held in Church Farm School’s new Buck Family Center for the Arts and will be taught by CFS faculty. Activities will include interactive engineering design challenges such as
- building the tallest paper tower
- upcycling found objects into artwork
- creating ceramics
- using a DSLR camera for digital photography and stop-motion video
- incorporating CAD and 3D printing to create a top
- learning how to sing choral music and creating your own song and soundtrack
- designing video games and prosthetic heart valves
“We are so excited for young men and women to participate in this STEAM Camp and to show off our amazing new facilities,” said Tiffany Scott, CFS’s Director of College Guidance and Strategic Initiatives. “We have some extremely talented faculty in our STEAM Department, and we are eager for more people in Chester County to be exposed to our work!”
