Mare of Easttown has arrived on HBO in all its Delaware County glory, but locals are asking: Why no Yuengling lager?

The crime drama with Kate Winslet includes the Delco accent, features Delco scenery, and was created by Brad Ingelsby, an Archbishop Carroll grad with some roots in Delco, writes Dayna Evans for Philly.Eater.com.

Ingelsby has said Easttown is a mix of Coatesville, Aston, and Drexel Hill.

But the main character, Mare, drinks Rolling Rock. What’s up with that?

She asks for it in the bar. She pulls it out of her refrigerator. At a friend’s house, a whole fridge shelf is dedicated to it.

Rolling Rock comes from Latrobe, about 40 miles from Pittsburgh.

Now, it’s brewed in Newark, a move that triggered threats in Latrobe of a boycott.

Yuengling comes from Pottsville. It’s still brewed there. It’s the oldest brewery in America.

It’s also available in almost any bar in the Philadelphia area, including, you’d have to guess, the fictional town of Easttown.

Easttown is supposed to be about 80 miles from Pottsville. Latrobe is a long 240-mile drive, even if Rolling Rock were still brewed there, which it isn’t.

To Mare’s credit, though, she does drink some Wawa coffee 10 minutes into the first episode.
