J. Scott Catering, founded by Scott Walsh in 1995, is the CCCBI's Small Business of the Year.

The Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry will host its Small Business Awards Breakfast & Annual Meeting on Wednesday, May 5 from 8:30-10 AM at the Desmond Hotel in Malvern.

The annual event is designed to spotlight the important role that small businesses have in Chester County’s economy. This year’s edition will have a limited in-person audience and be streamed online for free, courtesy of Valley Creek Productions.

Two awards are being presented: Small Business of the Year and Nonprofit of the Year.

J. Scott Catering will receive the Small Business of the Year Award, which honors a business that epitomizes entrepreneurship, leadership, and civic responsibility. J. Scott Catering was founded in 1995 by Scott Walsh, who has worked hard to establish a reputation for exceptional catering and superior customer service. His business was named Best Caterer by Main Line Today for eight consecutive years. In the midst of COVID-19, even as the catering industry was struggling, Walsh and his team organized “Food for the Frontlines,” a program that delivers hot meals to frontline workers.

“Scott Walsh and his team did so much to positively impact our community during this difficult time,” said CCCBI Chair Thom Chiomento. “Knowing how the lockdowns hurt their business, Scott and his team are more than deserving of this recognition.”

The Chester County Conference & Visitors Bureau will receive the Nonprofit of the Year Award, which recognizes exceptional achievements in building the community and enhancing the quality of those in its care.

The CCCVB is the official tourism agency for Chester County. Its mission is to build awareness of and promote Chester County’s Brandywine Valley as an ideal conference and visitor destination to help stimulate healthy economic development. The CCCVB has also worked hard during the pandemic to build up Chester County and create opportunities for businesses in our area to thrive and grow.

“Susan Hamley and her team have worked for years to maximize the entertainment and economic impact of our hospitality and attraction industries,” said CCCBI CEO Guy Ciarrocchi. “Yet, during the past year, they worked tirelessly to be advocates and a trusted source of information and support. They made us all so proud.”

The event’s keynote speaker is Ray Nudy, owner of Nudy’s Cafés. Growing up, Nudy worked in his father’s sandwich shop until it was sold when he was in the 11th grade. In 1979, he opened his first shop, eventually creating the popular Nudy’s Cafes we know and love. He now has 12 locations throughout Chester and Montgomery counties.
