Needing a Kidney After Fighting Cystic Fibrosis Since Birth, Avon Grove Grad Refuses to Give Up Hope
April Hansen, an Avon Grove High School graduate who has been fighting Cystic Fibrosis since she was a baby, has been searching for a kidney donor who would help her get off dialysis, writes Richard Gaw for the Chester County Press.
The 28-year-old Hansen, who moved from New London Township to Manhattan, starts and ends every day with a cocktail of pills, sinus rinse, and a round of dialysis. She spent most of her life around doctors, in medical offices, testing laboratories, and operating rooms.
Yet, she has never given up hope.
“A lot of my strength and resilience has come from the challenges of Cystic Fibrosis,” she said.
Hansen, who graduated from Meredith College in North Carolina, started her career as a graphics designer in an advertising agency. Today, she manages her online business, The Trendy Little Geek, and works at Trader Joe’s.
“It’s part of April’s determination to live as normal a life as possible,” said her mother, Nina.
Hansen and her friends have started a social media campaign searching for a kidney donor, along with a website to alert others to her cause.
