Original Mural Painted for Renowned Lukens Family Still Graces Wall of 1815 Home
An 1815 farmhouse in Ambler still boasts a mural painted by an itinerant artist for the Lukens family – which built the residence – in its center hall, writes Paul Jablow for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
There are many other stunning details throughout the house, including the original staircase, chair rails, and window moldings, as well as seven fireplaces.
Additionally, the home has had many modern updates that blend perfectly with its classical elements.
The home’s owners for the past two decades have been Melissa and Michael Locati. When the pair moved to Pennsylvania with three children, they found that the spacious house with five bedrooms was the perfect fit.
The property also boasts a two-story bank-barn and a carriage house. From there, the couple runs its online auction business.
With their children now older, the Locatis have decided it is time to downsize and have put the house on the market for $925,000.
“We’ve seen ourselves as caretakers,” said Michael. “We really hope another young family will continue to maintain the 19th-century buildings. We hope it’s here for another 200 years.”
