Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, one of the largest and most advanced behavioral healthcare organizations in the country, changes lives by unlocking and nurturing the potential in people living with emotional, behavioral, or cognitive differences.

There’s no better example of this than The Shops at Devereux, a licensed vocational training center in Devon that is comprised of several specialized workshops that function as small businesses. This program provides adults served by Devereux the opportunity to learn valuable and marketable skills in a realistic work environment.

“The Shops at Devereux are Devon’s best-kept secret, and we’d like to change that,” said Chris Betts, Executive Director at Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health. “For the individuals we serve, the Shops are therapy. They’re a real confidence-builder. The skills they learn, the people they meet – that translates into other settings.”

At The Shops, adults gain a deeper understanding of socially appropriate workplace behaviors, while striving to achieve employment within the community. Workers receive paychecks for the tasks they perform, and they learn how to budget and save the money they earn.

“The impact they have, the experiences they offer, is immeasurable,” Kirk Smith, Program Administrator at Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, said of The Shops at Devereux. “I had an individual whose dream was to become an auto mechanic because his father is one. To see him learn those skills in our Auto Shop and get paid for it – the smile on his face is priceless.”

The Shops provide structured programs that assist individuals in overcoming barriers that may prevent them from obtaining successful, competitive employment within the community. The program offers job skills training, education and assessment, and other career development opportunities, while also acting as a liaison to help businesses comply with the American with Disabilities Act, Pennsylvania Employment First Initiative, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, and Office of Developmental Program regulations.

Although visitors to The Shops at Devereux are limited, as well as the number of workers there at one time, due to strict COVID-19 guidelines, The Daisy Shop is running a Valentine’s Day special.

“The Daisy Shop is a full-service floral shop where customers can order flower arrangements and bouquets for any special occasion,” said Smith.

The Daisy Shop is offering:
