Patients at PowerBack Rehabilitation in Phoenixville Receive Their First Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine
Patients at PowerBack Rehabilitation in Phoenixville were among the first people outside of health workers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, write Jason Laughlin and Erin McCarthy for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The rehabilitation facility for seniors had 22 patients last week when the vaccines were being administered. Most patients staying at the facility are in their 70s and are there temporarily while they recover from surgery or a stroke.
According to Stacy Omar, executive director of PowerBack, the facility had 75 doses last week, enough for around 90 percent of its residents and staff. Anyone who was not vaccinated in the first round will receive their initial dose on Jan. 18.
And due to the shorter stay of patients, PowerBack had to prepare extensive procedures to ensure everybody receives the second dosage of the vaccine, which is administered 21 days after the first one.
“The documentation involved with everyone getting the shot is very, very lengthy and in-depth,” said Gary Bernett Sr., vice president of Genesis Physician Services, which operates PowerBack.
This includes detailed contact information for each patient who has received their first dose, so they can be contacted and reminded about the second shot.
