Two new documentaries have once again put the spotlight on Jayne Mansfield, the Bryn Mawr native and sex symbol who died more than a half-century ago, writes Amy Longsdorf for The Allentown Morning Call.

Mansfield 66/67 and The Wild, Wild World of Jayne Mansfield can be viewed on assorted streaming services.

Despite moving out of Pennsylvania early in her life, Mansfield kept strong ties with her family in the state and was buried in Fairview Cemetery outside Pen Argyl following her tragic death at 34.

The first documentary focuses on the actress’s life two years before her death. At the time, she was mostly relegated to work on B-movies. The film also looks at her strange friendship with the head of the Church of Satan, Anton LaVey.

Meanwhile, the second film presents a compilation of footage from Mansfield visiting various cities around the globe, including Rome, Paris, and New York.

The film almost borders on exploitation: It is narrated by a Mansfield-soundalike and wraps up with footage of the actress’s car accident.
