Somebody told Dave Portnoy about Pica’s in Upper Darby.

Its pizza was featured and reviewed on Portnoy’s “One Bite” pizza review blog on YouTube.

“This is a very good pizza,” the Boston native said.

He also took some friendly pokes at Delco and the folks who live there.

“Delco people love being from Delco,” he said. “I don’t know if there’s anything special from Delco, except being a Delco guy, I kind of like it. And Pica’s is the place everybody told me to go.”

Portnoy is the founder of Barstool Sports, a popular blog that now has an estimated value of $450 million after Pennsylvania-based Penn National Gaming partnered with it, purchasing a 36 percent stake in the company.

Portnoy, who was living in New York, has been spending more time in Philadelphia, close to Penn National headquarters, after the September launch in Pennsylvania of Barstool Sportsbook, a sports betting mobile application.

A couple of years ago, Portnoy launched “One Bite” out of New York, with a goal of reviewing and ranking a slice of cheese pizza from every pizza shop in New York City.

Pica’s pizza was hard to place in a category, he said. He described it as he sampled a slice in the restaurant parking lot off West Chester Pike.

“The sauce on top, which is very good in Philadelphia,” he said. “The cheese, not much of it, is underneath. It’s not traditional. I mean it’s not football pizza but this is very good.”

He’s interrupted as a man calls out, “Best pizza on the planet.”

“On the planet? Strong words. Best pizza on the planet?” Portnoy responded.

In the end, he gave the pizza a very respectable 7.8 rating as he closed out with more jabs at Delco.

“Delco, by the way, is, my guess, the 700 level at the Vet,” he said. “If it’s like ‘Hey, why is the Vet the only stadium that has a jail in it?’ I think the answer’s Delco. That’s just a guess.”

And finally, this.

“Delco … apparently it just means you go to the bars and just drink Bud Light on Sundays all day long. Delco. Pica’s. That’s our review.”
