Whether you’re working from home or out on the frontlines providing essential products and services, the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting many employees physically, mentally, and emotionally.

As we adapt to our new normal, many employers around the globe are taking a fresh look at their health benefits and well-being programs to support their workforces through this crisis.

Dr. Gerry Stanley, chief medical officer for Cerner’s workforce health services team, recently appeared on Perspectives on Health and Tech, a podcast by Cerner that features conversations with industry experts on the latest health care and technology topics. In an episode entitled “Looking Out for the Health of Our Workforce Heroes,” Dr. Stanley discussed:

  • the biggest workforce health challenges that employers are facing during the pandemic
  • the steps employers can take to address COVID-19 head-on
  • the best practices employers can follow to help employees stay physically and mentally healthy during this crisis
  • the things that are happening with employers that have on-site health centers

“There’s no official playbook, and we’ve never really dealt with anything like this before,” said Dr. Stanley. “With a lot of the employers we’re working with, their most important thing is making sure that all of their employees are staying engaged in their health care, whether they’re working from essential job sites or working from home.

“We’re delivering health care in a variety of settings for a variety of different clients. We’re taking care of state and local governments. We’re taking care of the entertainment industry, different aspects of the food industry, manufacturing, and different trade unions.”
