East Bradford Township resident Eric Ruggeri, a 32-year veteran of Chester County law enforcement, was moved by the daily show of support from New York City residents for healthcare workers who have been tirelessly battling the coronavirus outbreak, writes Michael Rellahan for the Daily Local News.

Ruggeri was in the city as part of a detail of the Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team that deals with the bodies of those who have died from the COVID-19 infection. It was not long before he noticed that at 7 PM each day, residents would drop whatever they were doing to pay respect to those on the front lines of the coronavirus battle.

People from all over the city would come out to their balconies and windows to cheer, clap, and whistle.

“That still happens to this day,” said Ruggeri. “There are open windows, 50 stories up and more, with clapping and whistling and bells ringing. Everyone was showing their appreciation. It was just breathtaking.”

And this support made the hard job he was doing there “all worthwhile,” he said.
