As local businesses and entrepreneurs continue to deal with the increasing economic woes, many are expressing doubt as to whether the federal stimulus checks will do much to help, writes Jen Samuel for the Daily Local News.

Aaron Warchal, owner of Phoenixville-based Built Strong Realty and Construction, does not believe small businesses like his will benefit much from the stimulus checks.

“I’m not sure if our business will be eligible for it,” said Warchal. “I think it is more so for large businesses to help them keep their payroll.”

Others, however, are looking forward to any bit of help.

Erika Bonnett, a West Grove resident, owns Center City Pretzel in Philadelphia. The business was started by her father, Anthony Tonelli, four decades ago. Two weeks ago, she was forced to temporarily close her business and lay off all eight members of her staff.

“Anything at this point would help us,” said Bonnett. “That stimulus check for a business would be tremendously helpful. Not to mention, the individuals also receiving that for their own personal use is extremely helpful.”
