Home of the Sparrow – the Exton-based nonprofit that partners with women facing homelessness to secure housing, achieve long-term stability, and chart new paths for their futures – has received a $5,000 grant from the Philadelphia Foundation’s PHL COVID-19 Fund.

As the community organizations that provide support to our most vulnerable neighbors are facing an unprecedented strain on their resources, the PHL COVID-19 Fund rapidly deploys grants and resources to help them navigate near- and long-term challenges and ensure that critical resources remain available for those who need them most.

“At Home of the Sparrow, our goal is to keep women and children from experiencing homelessness,” said Michelle Venema, CEO of Home of the Sparrow. “During this uncertain time, the people we serve are being directly affected by COVID-19. With this grant, we will be able to provide additional funds to keep more women and children right here in Chester County stably housed.”

According to the Philadelphia Foundation, “PHL COVID-19 Fund grantees have a demonstrated track record of successfully serving those most at-risk during this crisis. They keep community safety nets – including food pantries and health service – operating, help with preparedness and protection needs like hygiene supplies, and ensure access to accurate, up-to-date information and services.”
