Actress and musician Ann Crumb was honored in a recent tribute at the Media Theatre, writes Susan Serbin for the Delaware County News Network.

The event included testimonials and performances from friends, as well as video clips from Crumb’s own performances over the years.

Crumb died in October at age 69 from ovarian cancer. She grew up in Media, attended Penncrest High School, and went on to star on Broadway. She earned her landmark role starring in Aspects of Love after being personally chosen for the part by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.

She was the daughter of contemporary classical composer George Crumb.

Ruth Crumb, Ann’s aunt who developed the tribute, said Ann was described as a “force of nature.”

“Actress, musician, humanitarian, champion of the lost, and friend to all,” was the opening of the tribute’s program card.

Media Theatre Artistic Director Jesse Cline said Ann referred to the Media Theatre as her “home away from home.”

“She was a gift to this theater,” Cline said.

The program closed with an audio recording of Ann singing her father’s composition of “Deep River,” ending on the lyric, “crossing over the Jordan to the promised land.”
