Local Clergymen Balance Their Service to God with Community Service as Paoli Firefighters

Rev. Tim McGill, left, and Rev. Dave Driesch.

The Rev. Dave Driesch, a Catholic priest who is prior of Daylesford Abbey, and the Rev. Tim McGill, a Southern Baptist minister and pastor of Paoli Community Church, balance their service to God with their community service as firefighters with the Paoli Fire Company, writes Natalie Pompilio for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Sometimes, this means cutting a service short to go help fight a fire.

“If I heard the siren go off during Mass, and I heard one engine leave, and then a second engine leave, I’d speed things up a bit, cut that sermon short, and just get moving,” said Driesch, a veteran firefighter.

Driesch and McGill joined Paoli Fire Company separately around three years ago. For Driesch, this was the sixth fire department he would be a part of, while McGill was new to firefighting.

Thanks to their commercial driver’s licenses, both men were immediately put to work by the department leadership and both have proven to be great additions to the fire company.

“I couldn’t ask for a better result,” said Paoli Fire Company Chief Andrea Testa. “They’ve truly fit in here.”
