Amish from the entire region rode their buggies to Franklin Township last week for a day-long wedding celebration, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Local News.

The happy couple invited so many guests that the family of the bride had to construct its own reception hall for the occasion.

The wedding itself was performed on the property. The religious service was in German, and at the end, everybody joined together to sing.

Following the ceremony, many of the men gathered in the barn as the final preparations for the meal were being completed at the wedding house.

Amish weddings are usually done on Tuesdays and Thursdays in November and December, following the end of the demanding harvest season. The mid-week ceremony also allows the family a full day before the wedding for preparations, and a full day after the big day for cleanup.

The brides usually wear blue as their wedding color. They make their own dress, as well as the dresses of their attendants, known as newehockers, or sidesitters in Pennsylvania Dutch.
