Edmund Jones assisted with the Nuremberg Trials, founded a bank, was mayor of Swarthmore, was elected to Delaware County Council, and served as state representative for the 161st District. He died last month at the age of 101, writes Bonnie Cook for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

A nine-decade Swarthmore resident, Jones joined his father in 1942 at the law firm of Jones & Jones.

He was in the Army and, in 1945, transferred to the Judge Advocate General’s Office, where he took depositions from witnesses to war crimes at the Nuremberg War Crimes Trial.

He and his father founded the Industrial Savings & Loan Association of Chester and the First Federal Savings & Loan Association of Chester.

He was Swarthmore mayor from 1966 to 1971, state representative from 1971 to 1974, and was on Delaware County Council in 1987 and 1988.

Jones helped raise more than $1 million through the Swarthmore Centennial Foundation for charitable scholarships and community projects.

In 1964, he and his wife established the Edmund A. Jones Memorial Scholarship in their son’s name. The fund, administered by Swarthmore College, benefits high-school graduates in Pennsylvania who cannot afford college.
