Haleigh Karcher, a West Chester University freshman who will be playing for the school’s softball team later this fall, is looking forward to getting a new prosthetic hand that will help further improve her game, writes Briana Lewis for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The standout catcher from western Pennsylvania lost three and a half fingers on her glove hand three days before graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School. When the accident happened, Karcher was devastated, believing her dream of playing softball in college was in jeopardy.
She persevered, though, and remained committed to her goal. She worked to make her remaining fingers stronger and increase her overall strength.
Since enrolling at WCU, she played in a scrimmage and will compete in three weekends of preseason doubleheaders this month.
“I think that she has a great spirit, and she has been working really hard,” said Diane Lokey, coach of the Golden Rams.
Karcher is now looking forward to receiving a new prosthetic hand, specifically designed for her by Arm Dynamics in Philadelphia and funded through a GoFundMe campaign.
