Immaculata University has surpassed the national average for the percentage of freshmen returning for their sophomore year.

According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, the average retention rate for freshman to sophomore is 81 percent. Immaculata’s rate is 86 percent.

“This indicator highlights student satisfaction, with both the academic programs and campus life at Immaculata University,” said Dr. Angela Tekely, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “We pride ourselves on the support we provide our students to be successful throughout their college career and beyond.”

Leveraging high-impact best practices for student retention in higher education, Immaculata offers students academic coaching, professional writing and math centers, peer tutoring, robust first-year seminars, and numerous student involvement activities.

Immaculata emphasizes student engagement from the time a prospective student attends an open house, where they meet with faculty, staff, and coaches to understand how they will be supported at the university. Students immediately begin developing a relationship with faculty, and these interactions have been shown to increase student motivation and engagement. Immaculata boasts a student-faculty ratio of 9 to 1.

“The Immaculata faculty and staff are a huge reason why students choose to stay,” said Keani Hindle, a junior majoring in English-Secondary Education. “The professors help us pursue our passion and are more than willing to work with each individual student. Overall, the faculty and staff create a great atmosphere for the students and really add to the Immaculata community.”
