Elverson Supply, the building materials and hardware store, is celebrating 100 years of serving the community under one family, writes Donna Rovins for the Pottstown Mercury.

The small business has reached its centennial during the fourth generation of ownership by the same family, the Cooks. Brothers Robert, James, and David Cook run the show, with Robert’s son Jeff – the fifth generation – also working there.

The brothers plan to celebrate the store’s 100th birthday on Friday, Oct. 25 with a customer appreciation event from 10 AM-3 PM.

“It’s because of them that we’re here,” said David.

The event will feature on-site vendor displays, promotions, and door prizes.

“It’s an opportunity to show our appreciation for the customers we have, to meet new people, and to give them a chance to get to know us,” said David.

The brothers emphasized that while they are celebrating the 100 years that the store has been run by the Cook family, the business is even older than that. It actually started as a coal and lumber business in 1875, and over time, it evolved into the Elverson store patrons know and love.
