Devon’s Bua Loy transports diners to Laos with its décor, while they get to enjoy some of the best and most unique Southeast Asian cuisine, writes Ken Alan for Main Line Today.

The eatery is owned by Sean Phengmisouk. He named it after his mother, Bualoy Phengmisouk, who is also the restaurant’s chef. Translated, Bua Loy means Floating Lotus, which is also representative of her journey from Laos to the U.S. to provide a better future for her children.

Bua Loy’s exotic dishes are both flavorful and affordable. Some of the highlights include Khao Piak Sen, a cilantro-scented chicken broth tinged with garlic and hand-pulled tapioca noodles. There’s also the delicious Nam Khao, a crunchy rice salad with crushed peanuts, scallions, and lime served on a fresh bed of lettuce.

In addition to meals native to the owner’s homeland, the menu at the BYOB has a sizable selection of Thai-inspired lunches and dinners, including marinated chicken and pork satays and coconut milk curries.

Other recommendations include the excellent crispy duck, seafood hot pot, and its vegetarian platters.
