RKL, a leading professional services firm with an office in Exton, has partnered with Sage Policy Group, an esteemed economic analysis firm, to produce an Economic Outlook that aggregates recent local and regional data and contextualizes it within macroeconomic trends.

According to the report, there is evidence that global economic pressures have impacted the economy of Central and Southeastern Pennsylvania, which collectively lost 500 positions on net in July. (July represented a third consecutive month of job loss.) Despite the recent job losses, the combined regions have added jobs over the past year.

Unemployment remains low, with many counties still associated with sub-four percent rates. Another positive sign is that the labor force continues to expand, including in Philadelphia, where it expanded a healthy 1.7 percent over a recent 12-month period.

Other key findings include:

  • Southeastern Pennsylvania has outperformed the balance of the commonwealth in year-over-year job growth.
  • Education and health services have been a major driver of job growth, while other sectors have also generated significant numbers of net new jobs, including goods-producing segments like construction and manufacturing.
