Stephen M. Porter, an attorney at the law firm in West Chester, has been accepted into the inaugural class of the Mid-Atlantic Fellows Institute of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC).

Porter earned his J.D. from the Widener University School of Law, and in 2018, he received his LL.M. in Taxation and an Estate Planning Certificate from Villanova University.

The Mid-Atlantic Fellows Institute was created by ACTEC Fellows to develop the profession’s future leaders in trust and estate law through a series of in-depth educational presentations led by outstanding subject matter experts in each field from across the U.S. The institute includes six sessions for lawyers who were nominated by an ACTEC Fellow and selected through a competitive application process. The program begins in September 2019 and concludes in April 2020.

Emergency Management

The Chester County Department of Emergency Services received confirmation that it remains nationally accredited by the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) for a further five-year period.  Chester County was the first county in the state to achieve full accreditation for its emergency management program in 2014.

“Chester County’s position as the first county in the state to receive accreditation from EMAP five years ago reinforces the tremendous importance that we place on public safety, and our Director of Emergency Services, Mike Murphy, and his team have done a great job in maintaining this recognition,” said Chester County Commissioners’ Chair Michelle Kichline.

EMAP is the only accreditation process for emergency management programs in the nation and recognizes the ability of emergency management programs to bring together personnel, resources, and communications from a variety of agencies and organizations in preparation for, and in response to an emergency. The proven ability to measure these capabilities is also a key part of the EMAP accreditation.
