Members of the Picket Post Swim & Tennis Club in Chesterbrook are seeking to develop 35 townhouses on the property and to convert an existing historic barn into four residential units, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The plan was originally introduced last year, when it was met with resistance. The latest iteration was presented to Tredyffrin Township planners last week.

The club maintains two properties close to each other in Chesterbrook. The proposed development is for the 355 Chase Road property, which closed three years ago. The site has a swimming pool and six tennis courts, which were built and incorporated into Chesterbrook four decades ago.

Pending township approvals, the club has an agreement to sell the parcel to David Ludin of Green Bridge Development.

When the facilities were originally built, they were frequently used by members from the area. However, Picket Post has seen its membership drop significantly over the years.

“We don’t have the membership to support two locations,” said John McFadden, president of the club’s board. “Everything has changed. We can’t afford it anymore.”
