PHL 17 Morning News Visits WCU to See What’s Next for Soon-to-Be Graduates

PHL 17’s Matt Alba recently visited West Chester University and spoke with a few soon-to-be graduates about what’s next for them for a segment on the station’s morning news.

“I’m ready to actually get into a career that I hope to grow in and stay within, you know, for the rest of my life and really find satisfaction in it,” said Jasmine Wright, who’s hoping that her master’s degree in higher education can help her land a full-time job immediately after graduation.

Wright and dozens of other WCU students recently attended an event called “Pathways to Your Dream Job in the Digital Age.”

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, U.S. employers plan to hire 16.6 percent more new college graduates from the Class of 2019 than the Class of 2018.

At a recent WCU job fair, administrators say they saw an 81 percent increase in the number of employers who attended in comparison to last year and a 121 percent increase in the number of students who attended.

“I think we have a fairly strong job market right now, not just for the college graduates but in general,” said one administrator.
