People from all across Chester County attended the Downingtown leg of Lt. Gov. John Fetterman’s listening tour to give their views on legalizing recreational marijuana, writes Ginger Rae Dunbar for the Daily Local News.
When asked if they were in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana, the majority raised their hands.
Also, some attendees spoke for or against medical marijuana, which was signed into law by Gov. Tom Wolf three years ago.
People who already use medical marijuana said they believed it would be cheaper if recreational marijuana was legal. Additionally, some with conditions that do not qualify them for medical marijuana hope that legislators will do a better job when studying recreational marijuana before making any decisions.
There was also debate on whether marijuana is a drug that could result in overdoses and if people could become addicted to it.
Among those opposing this was a woman who works with those in recovery.
“I see patients every single day – teenagers, young adults, and older adults – who are battling addiction,” she said. “To say that marijuana is not a gateway drug is absolutely absurd.”
Fetterman is planning to visit all 67 counties over the summer.
