DNB First Recognizes Local Schools, Organizations for Their Commitment to Educational Excellence

By

DNB First recently hosted its annual Credit to Education Breakfast to recognize more than 60 local schools and organizations for their outstanding commitment to educational excellence in the community.

All of the organizations received a contribution on behalf of DNB First as part of the bank’s involvement with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) programs.

These programs enable businesses to invest directly in tomorrow’s workforce by turning tax dollars into scholarship funds. Businesses are credited for contributions to qualified scholarship organizations that provide much-needed tuition assistance.

“This year, we are proud to have provided funding to 60 organizations, benefiting thousands of students within Chester, Delaware, and Philadelphia counties,” said William J. Hieb, DNB First’s CEO. “And they’re not only students; they are our neighbors, our friends, our sons, and daughters.

“Simply put, these children are our future.”

Kristin Proto from The Garage Community & Youth Center, one of the recipients, spoke during the breakfast about the importance and impact of funding. The organization has two locations in Southern Chester County, and many of the teens that it helps come from households facing financial challenges. Some of the students will be the first in their families not only to pursue a college education, but also to graduate high school.

Another guest speaker, Gloria Satriale from Mission for Educating Children with Autism, discussed the impact that this kind of donation has on the work that the Downingtown-based organization does and the youth that it serves. Mission for Educating Children with Autism helps those with autism prepare for the demands of adult life and reach their full potential. It also strives to raise awareness of autism and advocates for greater acceptance and support.

“DNB First has established a legacy of supporting educational excellence for more than a decade,” said Hieb. “As a community bank, we take a tremendous amount of pride in helping these organizations teach and develop our next generation of leaders and citizens.”
