East Village by Southdown Homes, a forthcoming housing development in Downingtown located off Country Club Drive near Bishop Shanahan High School, officially broke ground last week, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

The development with 225 homes will include single-family homes, carriage homes, and townhouses and is within walking distance of local dining and shopping. It will also offer resort-style amenities and golf-course views among its benefits.

“This is the next step in economic progress in Downingtown,” said Downingtown Mayor Josh Maxwell.

He said that Downingtown is currently one-third under 35 years old, with property values rising at around 4.7 percent a year.

“Homes are people’s biggest investments, and we are thrilled to have Southdown Homes invest in our borough, improving our economic climate,” he said.

Townhouses in the new development start in the low $300,000s, twin homes are $400,000 and up, while single-family homes are in the $400,000 range.

The homes will have first-floor master bedrooms and two-car garages. Buyers will also get to enjoy walking trails and the clubhouse with fitness center.

According to a Southdown Homes official, the sales trailer will open in the summer with the first homes expected to be completed in late 2019 or early 2020.
