Chester and Delaware counties are in the bottom half of the 67 counties in Pennsylvania based on the number of DUI accidents resulting in fatalities, writes Callie McGill for ValuePenguin.

Pennsylvania has recently seen a drop in DUI fatalities throughout the state, as they’ve decreased 17 percent between 2016 and 2017. However, some areas are still more prone to fatal accidents.

To create the rankings, ValuePenguin analyzed the total number of fatalities in recent years caused by DUI-related crashes using data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System. The numbers were then compared to U.S. Census data for Pennsylvania’s counties.

Chester County placed 47th with 1.47 fatalities per 100,000 residents, a decrease of 37.14 percent between 2012-2014 and 2015-2017.

Delaware County was even lower at 55th, with 0.83 fatalities per 100,000 residents, a drop of 87.50 percent between 2012-2014 and 2015-2017.

Lancaster (45th), Bucks (49th), Philadelphia (51st), and Montgomery (58th) counties were also in the bottom half of the list.

The county in Pennsylvania with the most DUI fatalities is Susquehanna County with 7.69 deaths per 100,000 residents.
