Horse Farm in Kennett Square Expects to Fetch Extraordinary Amount for American Pharoah’s Colt
With two Triple Crown winners in his bloodline, American Pharoah’s first colt, born earlier this month at Walnut Green Farm in Kennett Square, is expected to fetch an extraordinary amount of money when he goes up for sale, writes Galen Moore for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
“So far, everything physically about him is A, No. 1,” said Mark Reid, owner of Walnut Green Farm.
The price for a thoroughbred colt usually ranges from $600,000 to $700,000. However, given this one’s lineage, he is more likely to bring in more than $1 million.
In addition to being sired by American Pharoah, the stallion that won the Triple Crown in 2015, the colt’s mother is High Quail. Her family tree traces back to Seattle Slew, winner of the Triple Crown in 1977.
In order to capture the vaunted Triple Crown, a horse must win the sport’s three marquee events, all within a little more than a month: the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes.
The colt has not been named by Walnut Green Farm, as that honor will belong to the buyer.
