share the warmthA retired elderly couple living on a limited income was deeply worried about the old windows in their home. The lights would flicker on and off due to an unstable electric box. All of these problems lent to a high electric and heating bill.

After recovering from a broken hip caused by a fall, the homeowner contacted Good Neighbors Home Repair to ask for assistance. Over the course of the summer, volunteers, many of whom were teenagers, worked alongside Good Neighbors’ project managers to replace eight windows, update the electric box, and replace the roof.

Another elderly homeowner, who devotes her time to caring for her disabled son, was in desperate need of a new boiler, but her limited income prevented her from replacing it. After contacting Good Neighbors, volunteers were able to install a new boiler and replace her roof, which she had no idea had become damaged and unsafe.

Volunteers give of their time and talents and are an important part of getting these families and so many more back to living in warm and safe homes.

You can help by donating to the United Way of Chester County’s Share the Warmth initiative.

Share the Warmth provides people in Chester County long-term fixes through major home repairs and short-term solutions for those facing homelessness or inadequate shelter. This work often means that families can stay in their own homes – warm, safe, and dry – and those affected by the elements of winter are protected.

Please make checks payable to United Way of Chester County and send to 495 Thomas Jones Way, Suite 302, Exton, PA 19341, Attn: SHARE THE WARMTH.
