Streets of Downtown Kennett Square to Swell with Visitors for Annual Mushroom Drop
Thousands of people are expected to fill the streets of downtown Kennett Square, to usher in the New Year with the sixth annual Mushroom Drop, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.
While last year’s cold weather may have prevented people from joining the festivities, this year’s temperature should be more inviting.
The free event – “Midnight in the Square” – is again being hosted by the Mushroom Festival and Kennett Area Restaurant and Merchant Association.
The Laser Light Show will start at 6 PM, followed by the event itself at 6:30 PM. The stainless steel “mushroom” is scheduled to be raised at 8:45 PM at the Garage Community and Youth Center at 115 South Union Street.
The band Funsters will liven up the crowd starting at 9 PM. Also providing entertainment will be KMC Dancers, Fred McCarthy and the Rose Project, Longwood Performing Arts Studio, and others.
Food, beer, and wine will be provided by Kennett Brewing, with On the Roll food truck also serving food and drinks.
A number of Kennett Square restaurants will also be open during the event.
