76ers center Joel Embiid, one of the most coveted free agents in the sneaker market, has signed a five-year endorsement deal with Under Armour, writes Nick DePaula for ESPN.com.

Embiid had received sizable offers from a number of brands but decided on Under Armour. Adidas, his prior brand, had the right to match the offer but declined.

“When I sat down with Under Armour, one of the first things we talked about was how this can be bigger than just shoes, bigger than just basketball,” said Embiid. “That was the first thing that I said to Under Armour, and they were behind it 100 percent.”

The company impressed Embiid by dedicating resources to fashion custom-made footwear for him. It also made additional charity commitments to both the Philadelphia region and his native Cameroon.
