A new online tool from the New York University School of Medicine ranks Philadelphia’s neighborhoods according to their walkability, writes Darryl Murphy for PlanPhilly.

The City Health Dashboard quantifies the density of intersections and residences within a neighborhood and accessibility to amenities such as stores, parks, and restaurants.

The least walkable area of the city is Eastwick. Close to the airport, the area is rather isolated and lacking the amenities available in busier parts of the city.

Other neighborhoods in Philadelphia that are considered the least walkable are parts of Girard Estates and Packard Park in South Philadelphia and Somerton, Millbrook, and Bustleton in the Northeast.

The most walkable sections are unsurprisingly in Center City, including Rittenhouse Square, Fitler Square, Logan Square, and Society Hill.

“We hope that this data is going to spur action and target intervention in these locations and also the allocation of resources,” said Oktawia Wojcik, a program officer at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
