Chester County’s Congressional race intensified last week, with the first television ad for Democratic candidate Chrissy Houlahan hitting the airwaves, writes Claudia Vargas for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The 30-second ad started airing last Wednesday in the Philadelphia market. It features the candidate running at every stage of her life, from grade school to the Air Force and her professional life.

“My mom taught me to love math and science,” Houlahan said in the ad. “I became an engineer on an ROTC scholarship. Then in the Air Force, I prepared for the aftermath of nuclear war.”

She goes on to say she was COO of a successful startup, a chemistry teacher in North Philadelphia, and head of a literacy nonprofit.

“I’m Chrissy Houlahan, and I approve this message because service is my life. Serving in Congress will be about yours,” she says in the ad.

Houlahan is running in the Sixth District to replace Republican Ryan Costello, who is not seeking re-election. Her opponent is Republican Greg McCauley.
