The Lionville Community YMCA’s Diversity, Inclusion, and Global Innovation Network – in partnership with the Chester County Interfaith Action Community – is hosting a panel discussion on the use of sacred texts.

The event will be held at the Lionville Community YMCA, located at 100 Devon Drive in Exton, on Thursday, Sept. 27 from 7-9 PM. The event is open to all and free of charge, but registration is required. Click here to register or contact Melissa Schleyer at mschleyer@ymcagbw.org or 610-363-9622 x 2924.

The event will feature religious leaders from Catholicism, Judaism, Islamic, and Hindu faiths reviewing how sacred texts are used in their teachings. The panel will be moderated by Lionville Community YMCA Executive Director Rick Reigner and a question-and-answer period will follow the discussion.

Key speakers include:

  • Rabbi John Cutler of Beth Israel Congregation of Chester County
  • Reverend Monsignor Thomas M. Mullen of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church
  • Ejaz Sabir of Islamic Society of Chester County
  • Achal Verma of Hari Om Mandir

“The YMCA is committed to ensuring all in our communities feel welcomed,” said Reigner. “People of all ages, shapes, sizes, cultures, and backgrounds come together at the YMCA. Taking the time to understand one another is critical to building a strong community, and this event is just one way we are working to bring all in our community together.”

The Lionville Community YMCA’s DIG Innovation Network is a YMCA initiative in which members make a commitment to integrate diversity into the community and their everyday lives to foster a better world.

The event will conclude with potluck refreshments, so registrants are asked to bring a dish to share (with a list of the ingredients to be displayed at the event).
