Devon Prep Bolsters Its Athletic Reputation with Bold Move to Philadelphia Catholic League
Devon Prep’s athletic teams have moved from the Bicentennial Athletic League to the Philadelphia Catholic League, one of the best leagues in the state, if not the entire country, writes Michael Bradley for Main Line Today.
The change is expected to bolster Devon Prep’s reputation by aligning it with schools of similar missions and goals.
“If this was solely about winning in the league, we wouldn’t be making the move,” said Pat Kane, director of external operations at Devon Prep. “This is about being part of a league and having major common factors with the other schools.”
The move is equally important for the Catholic League, which has contracted often throughout the last half-century.
“We’re excited about it,” said Joe Sette, the chairman of the PCL board and Archbishop Wood’s athletic director. “When you look at the success Devon has had in baseball, and with some really good golfers, it should be able to carve out a nice niche for itself because of its size.”
