Chester Springs native McKenzie Rafferty has been named the new women’s lacrosse coach at Florida Institute of Technology, an NCAA Division II college in Melbourne, Fla.

Rafferty, a Downingtown East graduate, most recently spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Regis University in Denver. Last season, she helped guide the Rangers to the Final Four.

A former standout at the University of Delaware, Rafferty helped elevate the Blue Hens into the national rankings. In 2018, she graduated with a master’s degree in Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of Denver.

“Florida Tech women’s lacrosse has risen to prominence at the NCAA Division II level over the past few seasons, and we are fortunate to have McKenzie as our new head women’s lacrosse coach,” said Bill Jurgens, Florida Tech’s Director of Athletics. “I am impressed with all that she has been able to accomplish, as a player, assistant coach, and academically. I know she will do a great job for Florida Tech as our new coach and I look forward to working with her for years to come.”

“McKenzie is a very talented lacrosse mind and will make an immediate impact on the program at Florida Tech,” said Sarah Kellner, the women’s lacrosse coach at Regis. “We at Regis University are extremely grateful for the time and commitment she gave to our program, players, and staff the last two years.”
