The Catholic Newman Center at West Chester University recently welcomed Archbishop Charles Chaput for dinner and a discussion with students, writes Madeline Conte for CatholicPhilly.com.

When he arrived, Chaput was welcomed by campus chaplain Father Tom Gardner and the center’s assistant director, Dan Pin.

The pair gave him a tour of the Newman Center, including the chapel that was renovated recently with the help of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and other donors.

Chaput made sure to shake hands with each student before sitting down for the meal. He also went around each table to sit and connect with students.

After dinner, Chaput held a Q&A session. Before leaving, he bestowed a blessing on the guests.

“Clearly, the Archbishop has many obligations, but he was very intentional during his visit here at West Chester,” said Laura Riebe, an active member of the Newman Center. “The way he took time to encounter every person in the room shows how he really cares for the Catholic youth and wants to invest in them accordingly.”
