Over the last decade, Phoenixville has undergone a major transformation that has made it an attractive living destination for millennials and empty-nesters alike, writes Erin McCarthy for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

When Peter Urscheler, the town’s current mayor came to Phoenixville 12 years ago, he spent most of his free time hanging out with his friends in neighboring towns.

Today, the borough is bustling with breweries, restaurants, and a growing population of mostly millennials and empty-nesters. Their needs are very similar as they want a choice of restaurants and bars within walking distance, access to the arts, luxurious but manageable apartments, and a vibrant community.

Phoenixville has added a pair of 600-unit, luxury-apartment complexes over the last five years, and there are 2,000 additional apartments coming within a quarter-mile of downtown over the next two years. Meanwhile, officials are confident that a regional rail station will once again become a reality.

“The spirit, the culture of Phoenixville, that’s what makes me proud,” said Urscheler. “Modern, new-age communities are trying to be what Phoenixville already is.”
