People’s Light will be hosting its annual Golf Classic on Monday, Oct. 1 at White Manor Country Club in Malvern. One of two fundraisers dedicated to the theatre’s youth education programs, this annual outing presents a great excuse to call in a fun-day Monday and enjoy a relaxing day on the links with colleagues, clients, and friends.

For the first time, the event will take place at White Manor Country Club, cited earlier this year as one of the region’s highest-ranked courses by the Philadelphia Business Journal. (In 2015, Golf Digest named White Manor one of Pennsylvania’s Top 25 Golf Courses.) The eighth hole is notorious for its sneakiness: par 3 and a modest 165 yards but surrounded by water to the front and left of the green and a bunker to the right, making way for a little extra-friendly competition, as well as a special prize for the team with the lowest combined score on that hole.

Of course, there will be plenty of friendly competition throughout the day, along with lunch, cocktails, and dinner.

Lunch- and dinner-only options and hole sponsorships are available for those who would still like to partake in quality networking and support People’s Light’s youth education initiatives.

While many people recognize People’s Light for world-class theatre, its education programs continue to positively impact more than 10,000 youth throughout the entire five-county area each year. Player participation directly benefits these programs, collectively called Arts Discovery, which has a budget of $1,135,011 and serves 21 schools in 15 districts, including communities such as Philadelphia, Coatesville, Norristown, Avon Grove, and Kennett Square.

Additionally, students in the New Voices program from the City of Chester come from schools in which nearly 100 percent of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Several of People’s Light’s programs serve students with disabilities, with many on the autism spectrum.

These pivotal programs are integral to developing artistic and creative minds in youth of all abilities, which is why community support is vital to advancing the theatre’s mission of making and experiencing theatre possible to young people in Chester County and beyond.
