Getaround, the peer-to-peer car-sharing platform that offers a convenient and sustainable alternative to renting a car, launched in Greater Philadelphia earlier this month.

Every car listed on the platform can be booked hourly or daily. It includes Getaround Connect technology so users can remotely locate and unlock the vehicles with the company’s iPhone or Android app.

Now, people in Greater Philadelphia can conveniently share cars with people close to them without having to coordinate a key pickup or drop-off. The platform puts a wide variety of cars within easy reach of consumers, while giving car owners a chance to earn extra income to offset the cost of their vehicle.

Getaround’s model differs from existing car rental options because it uses vehicles people already own. This helps reduce carbon emissions and contributes to improving air quality.

“It’s been our mission to drive change that has global impact, yet also positively affects local communities,” said Sam Zaid, CEO and co-founder of Getaround. “Our platform helps alleviate traffic congestion, while providing a long-term flexible model for car ownership and giving earning power to owners.”

Getaround performs a full security screen of every renter and provides a $1 million insurance policy to cover each booking. The app also has real-time GPS tracking and 24/7 customer support.
