Immaculata University’s Volunteer Service Projects Promote Lifelong Servant Leadership
Students in Immaculata University’s Class of 2022 participated in a community service project last Saturday as part of their New Student Orientation (NSO).
Several Philadelphia Catholic schools and local organizations were the benefactors of this all-day volunteer project that has been at the crux of Immaculata’s mission of service and activities for NSO.
“At Immaculata, the expectation is that we give back to the community,” said Lynn Rothenhoefer, associate dean of students and co-chair of NSO.
Students volunteered at the following sites:
- Saint Veronica Catholic School (Philadelphia)
- Saint. Rose of Lima School (Philadelphia)
- Saint Martin de Porres (Philadelphia)
- Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls (Philadelphia)
- Share Food Program (Philadelphia)
- Ridley Creek State Park (Media)
- Camilla Hall (Malvern)
“Service to others has been a part of my life for a long time,” said Francesca Kalie, a student who volunteered at Saint Veronica. “I chose Immaculata so I could continue the journey of my Catholic faith. I know helping others is important, and I love giving back to the community.”
At the schools, Immaculata students were engaged in clean-up activities such as purging and sorting items, painting, and preparing the schools for opening day. All of the supplies were provided by Immaculata. At Share Food Program, the students sorted through food items to give to needy families.
“As one of Immaculata University’s core values, service is part of the culture that we like to get started early and continue throughout their Immaculata experience and beyond,” said Rothenhoefer. “We believe it reveals to them that in true ‘servant leadership’ we are our best selves when we put the needs of others before our own.”
