According to a new survey by MagnifyMoney, women looking to start their own business should steer clear of Philadelphia, writes Erin Arvedlund for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
MagnifyMoney surveyed the nation’s 50 largest cities to find the best and worst places for women who want to be their own boss and/or launch a business.
It examined areas such as business income for self-employed women, the rate of self-employed and incorporated women, and the parity between business ownership for women and men.
The City of Brotherly Love checked in at No. 48, ahead of only Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
The survey showed that self-employed women in Philadelphia earn significantly less than their counterparts in other cities.
Philadelphia also has fewer women who have either incorporated a business or chosen self-employment.
This has other consequences, as it makes it harder for entrepreneurial women in Philadelphia to find women mentors and women-centered networks.
